Family football is not just about playing football with an official NFL football. Proper nutrition is also an important component. A good game of family football fun is impossible if players don’t eat properly. Too often players eat food with no real food value. This article focuses on food and describes the bad food that family footballers should avoid and the good food that provides proper energy and good health.
1 – Bad Food
America loves fast food. Some is nutritious but much it is not. Unfortunately, high fat hamburgers and greasy French fries predominate. It is no wonder that many Americans are obese. We shy away from foods that are good for us and choose the worst things. These include sugary doughnuts, high fat chips and dips, caffeine-rich carbonated drinks and rich desserts. Obesity is a major problem in America as more people take two bad actions. They: (1) pile on low nutrition fast food and (2) avoid exercise.
It is easy in America to eat badly. Restaurants serve huge portions; fast food chains advertise high calorie delicacies and food stores push high fat meats. Disease like diabetes, cancer and stroke prevail in our society because we seem to have forgotten nutritious food. Some effort is being made to abate our love affair with fat foods. But this may be too little too late. So what is the answer? How can people eat good food?
2 – Good Food
Eating nutritious food is an uphill battle. Interestingly, there is plenty of good food available. Our supermarkets overflow with fresh fruits and vegetables. There are abundant quality drinks like low fat milk and juices. Low fat foods like chicken and fish are readily available and not excessively expensive. So there is no excuse for not eating good food. But what stops us?
While nutritious food is readily available, it is not as easily consumed as the high fat variety. But fast food chains are now beginning to serve healthy food. But in the final analysis it’s up to the individual to make the right choice. If we continue to eat high fat hamburgers and greasy French fries, that is what we’ll be served. Family football can make a positive contribution by avoiding excessive fat and high cholesterol foods when serving meals at football outings. Also, individual players should maintain diets that feature low fat and high protein foods. Good food will win if we want it to.
We have many choices in our food. There is a wide variety of foods that promote and extend good health. As dedicated family footballers ,who play football for family fun, we should consume the low fat and high energy foods that are right for us.
