A New Season

A new football season is almost here. All teams have now completed their spring training. The intensive practices of the professional and college teams begin very soon. So it’s not too early for family footballers to begin to prepare for their season. This requires four actions: (1) get in condition, (2) conduct organization meetings, (3) view the playing field, and (4) prepare equipment. Each action is reviewed here.
Playing family (or any) football requires all players to be in good physical condition. This requires three actions: (1) exercise regularly for heart and body strength, (2) eat nutritious food, and (3) avoid all harmful substances. Exercise should be both aerobic and strengthening. Eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruit and shun all fast food. Do not smoke, drink alcohol or take any banned drugs. Being in top physical condition is a key requirement.
Getting all players properly organized before the season is a basic need. Everyone who plays family football in your playing group should be invited to attend an initial organization meeting. Here all personnel, playing and equipment requirements can be agreed on well before the season starts. This meeting does not have to be onerous. But it is needed to ensure an appropriate beginning for the new family football season.
Another important action is to view and select the playing field. There are a number of questions to ask. These include the following. Is the field grassy? Does it have goal posts? Is it readily available? Does it require a permit? By conducting this review well in advance of the season an excellent playing venue can be selected.
All football equipment to be used must also be assessed. What must be scrapped and what purchased? There is not a lot of equipment to decide on but this selection process must be done thoroughly. It covers footballs, accessories and tote bags.
Any football used should be an official football. The preferred one is an official NFL football covered in top grain leather. This leather football plays very well and can be a Spalding football or a Rawlings football. The next most preferred football is the composite football covered in a mixture of leather and rubber. It does not play as well as a leather football but is also less than half the price. It can be a Rawlings football or an
Quality accessories are also required. These include a ball pump, pressure gauge, inflating needles and a football repair kit. The football pump can be a foot pump or a hand operated air pump. It is unwise to skimp on accessories. Get the best available.
No team should be without a tote bag. This ball bag or ball tote is made of nylon mesh in many colors and can hold up to 10 footballs. The nylon ball bag or nylon ball tote carries all equipment and to and from games and keeps it secure at the games. Don’t forget the ball bag!
A new family football season is about to begin. Follow the simple preparations suggested here and it will be a very good season for all concerned!
