Who plays family football for fun these days? Is it just the casual player or does this love of fun extend more broadly to other players? This article looks at fun in family football and suggests who the participants are playing this game for fun. There are two fundamental types of players – casual and serious. How do both these types play family football? Also, what is the role of football equipment in this process?

There is no doubt that the casual player plays family football for fun. These players allow anyone to play regardless of age, sex or ability. They also care little about the score and just enjoy the game. Their games tend to be more social events than serious football games. For example, an important part of their day is the after game meal. They invite family and friends to come to the game and stay for the meal. So, in all respects this game is meant to be fun for all concerned – players and spectators alike. So, does everyone enjoy it? Yes they do since they revel in the joy of playing out-of-doors. This kind of attitude assures that everyone who participates in this casual game will enjoy themselves.

The serious player participates in family football solely for the joy of the game. While having fun is important to this type of player, it is not their prime reason for playing. They play this game in order to win and enhance their skills as football players. This game attracts seasoned and able players. There are few women who participate unless they are gifted players. This selection process also applies to older and younger players as well. Only the most accomplished players are welcome in this serious game. As is obvious this kind of game excludes any casual players. It is a hard game and played very seriously. Also, this is not the game for someone who is seeking only fun in family football.

As is obvious these two types of games vary radically. In the casual game, having fun is the primary driver for participation. In the serious game, many players have fun playing. But this is not their motivation for play. They love the rough and tumble of this game and play it accordingly. So if it’s fun alone that you seek in family football, stick with the casual game!

In either type of game, the football equipment selected is important. This includes an official football, quality accessories and a sturdy tote bag. The best football (and the one used most often by serious players) is the official NFL football covered in top grain leather. This all leather football can be a Rawlings football, a Spalding football or a Wilson football. The next most preferred football is the leather and rubber composite football. It plays quite well most of the time and can be an Olympia football or a Rawlings football. The football most preferred by the casual players is the rubber football. It is not expensive and plays okay most of the time. Casual players like its low cost. It can be the Baden football, the Champion football, the Mikasa football or the Olympia football.

Regardless of the game, quality accessories are required. These include a football pump, pressure gauge, inflating needles and a football repair kit. The ball pump can be the hand operated air pump or the more expensive foot pump.

Another useful accessory is the ball bag or ball tote. It is made of nylon mesh, comes in many colors and has a nylon draw string. Thus nylon ball bag or nylon ball tote can accommodate up to 10 footballs. It is invaluable at carrying football equipment to and from games and for protecting unused equipment at these games.

If only having fun is your desire, play the casual game. However, if you’re committed to hard play select the serious game. Both provide fun but of a different type!
